Rules and tips for Presenters

We've put together some tips for helping you to create a winning presentation!  Please also make sure to follow the key rules: 5 Tweets, use a thread, use the hashtag #TropiCon20.

Firstly, make sure your Twitter account is not set to 'private', otherwise we will not be able to see your Tweets!  You have been allocated a 15 minute slot during the conference to share your research - find out your timeslot in the schedule.  We hope you'll get involved with other presentations and lightning Tweets too!  To find out more about this, take a look at our information for participants.

Tweets

  • Your five Tweets should be in the form of a ‘thread’, i.e. reply to your own Tweet.  Further information on creating a thread can be found here (https://help.twitter.com/en/using-twitter/create-a-thread)

  • All Tweets must all start with its number (1-5), followed by the conference hashtag #TropiCon20.  You are free to use other hashtags as well!

  • You are free to allocate the Tweets as you see fit, however we recommend each presentation should start with an introductory tweet (1) followed by 3 tweets detailing the methods and results (2-4) and finish with a summary tweet (5)

  • You may wish to include the names or Twitter handles of co-authors in your Tweets

  • Tweets are limited to 280 characters, but we encourage creative use of media such as pictures, gifs, figures, videos, QR codes…

  • We recommend each image has an accompanying description. This can be done by clicking Add description after inserting a photo. More details on how to set image descriptions can be found online (https://help.twitter.com/en/using-twitter/picture-descriptions)

On the day

  • At the start of your timeslot, you will be introduced by the host.  This is your cue to start Tweeting!

  • We recommend that you allow around 5 minutes of your 15 minute time slot to answer questions. You should therefore aim to publish one tweet about every 2 minutes.

  • You may also choose to schedule your Tweets (e.g. by using TweetDeck or Hootsuite), but we ask that you are around to answer questions

  • Your Tweet thread will be retweeted by @BES_Tropical and @BESConservation to help your research reach a wide audience.

Closing ceremony

At 5pm (GMT), we hope that you will join us for the Zoom Closing Ceremony!  We will be awarding prizes for the best presentation, runner-up and best lightning Tweet.  (See the schedule for latest information on how to attend!).
